Trauma and PTSD

Intro

Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing. 

Symptoms

  • Intrusive or upsetting memories
  • Flashbacks
  • Nightmares and/or difficulty sleeping
  • Physical reactions or emotional distress towards something that reminds you of a memory
  • Avoiding thinking about a traumatic event
  • Avoidance talking about a traumatic event
  • Avoiding places, activities or people that remind you of the traumatic event
  • Memory loss or memory gaps
  • Negativity towards yourself, others, the world and/or the future
  • Lack of interest in maintaining once close relationships such as family members and/or friends
  • Lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed
  • Difficulty feeling positive  
  • Easily startled or constantly looking for danger
  • Putting yourself in dangerous, sometimes life threatening positions and/or suicidal thoughts
  • Reliance on drugs and/or alcohol
  • Angry outbursts or irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • In kids a common symptom is role playing a traumatic event

Causes

  • PTSD can be hereditary due to family history of depression and anxiety
  • Can be related to your temperment
  • There's a possibility that the body is responding to stress by releasing incorrect chemicals and hormones
  • Can be related to a traumatic period of time such as the life of an ex veteran or the life of someone who was in an abusive relationship
  • Can be related to a traumatic event
